I rushed downstairs. Things weren't looking good. Mom and Dad had been staying in the basement, and Dad was in the bedroom, door closed. Mom was teary-eyed on the armchair, talking to Grandpa Don. I knew what had happened. Dad had had some seizures, got incredibly weak, and Mom took him to bed.
I sat with Mom for a bit, trying to comfort her. She told me a little bit of the story - Dad, although his walking had improved over the last couple of weeks, as of tonight, couldn't seem to walk. After a while, she asked me to leave so that she and Grandpa could talk.
I complied and went up to my room, trying to understand what this meant. I had gotten so used to how things had been for the past months... this was such a shock, and obviously really bad. It looked like things were going to change for the worse. I cried a bit myself, overwhelmed by the unfairness of it all. It really is terrible, especially for a man like Gary. It's hard to describe.
Eventually the night came to a gradual end. Beth and Alyssa and all their friends and relatives left for home. I packed it in for the night downstairs. I was still sleeping down there while Grandpa was in town. As if sleeping wouldn't be hard enough in my own bed.
But that's not what kept me up.
Dad got up around midnight to go to the bathroom. He fell. It woke me up with a shock. I put his arm around my neck and lifted him up. He could barely support his own weight, even with me helping. Eventually, though, I got him back into his bed.
Unfortunately, he did the same thing in an hour, and this time with worse results. He fell, again, and hurt his foot. I came in and helped him back into bed again. His foot was in pain, and it seemed pretty bad. He was barely be able to move around without it hurting. But there wasn't anything we could really do about it. It was his bad foot. Getting it cast, even if it was broken, wouldn't help us. I went back to bed. I still had to get up in six hours.
As if the situation wasn't bad enough already...

Keeping My Mind Off Things

With all that's been going on lately, I've been looking for fun, comforting things to keep me occupied and distracted. There's two things really.
One is that my blog is doing quite well. This used to be kind of a pressure, but these days it's more of a relief and convinces me to write well. Positive feedback and new readers have done me and my writing well. I'm glad that after these months of writing I'm finally getting more readers.
The second distraction, is, of course, video games. I confess; I am quite a nerd. And quite a Nintendo fan actually. Since my Wiimote sensor bar is low on battery, I've gone back to a few of the Gamecube games. Most of all, Pikmin. And I've noticed something. Nintendo has either:
A.) A boatload of creativity
-or-
B.) A boatload of drugs.
When you've been a fan as long as I have, you'll realize how true this is.
At any rate, getting my mind off things did have repercussion. Fast forward. It's 11:00. I'm lying in bed because I can't get to sleep. Suddenly I realize something. An English that's about half my grade is due tomorrow. Son of a...
So I dragged my nauseous, teary ass out of bed and dragged it downstairs to start writing. And two hours later, after finishing, I dragged my ass back upstairs. It still took me a half-hour to get to sleep. You'd think I'd be tired. Just need more sleep...

A little bit of Christmas

Sorry I haven't been writing daily for a while, but ever since the teachers realized that finals are coming in two weeks, they've been doing their best to get in those final big assignments. I came home with nearly six assignments in english and speech. And the weekend caught up with me this morning.
I woke up this morning to hot water. But I wasn't laying down, I was standing up in the shower. I had actually sleep walked into my bathroom, climbed into my shower, and turned on the water. All this, unconscious. And better yet, when I finally got out of the shower and got all my stuff ready, I took a look at the clock. 3:00 A.M. Why did I get up that early? I laid back down, exhausted, onto my bed and slept for another three hours before waking up again to go to school.
Luckily, the day turned out better than I had expected as far as homework goes. I finished my grammar assignments in class and passed it in without my teacher realizing I had done it off his notes on the board.
But that's not what I'm talking about today. Today is one of the first days of advent, and it really is a transitional day. I'm starting to feel the windy cold and the christmas spirit is beginning to seep up out of the ground to cheer us up. We put a reef on the front door, and more importantly, the tin man in the picture. As you can see, Christmas is already starting to infect us with happiness. Don't you love it?
To top off the metaphorical christmas transition cake, I'm playing at a christmas concert tomorrow with the band at 7:00 P.M. I have several soloes slash one-on-one accompiniments. I'm nervous, but I'm sure I'll do just fine. I hope...
My aunt will be here in town in these coming weeks while my parents leave for San Francisco. (They're trying to figure out some chemo...)

Blogger's Block Part 2 (Sleep Troubles)

Who ever invented daylight savings was an asshole. Trust me. When you have to get up at 6:00 A.M. every morning, you don't appreciate when someone comes along and screws up your schedule. Thanks to this dumb idea, I've been waking up an hour earlier than my alarm clock. I then I have to sit there, restless, for an hour. This is ridiculous. I'm waking up way earlier than I need to, and there's nothing I can do but wait for my body to adapt. I almost fell asleep in class (to the dismay of my English teacher).
But, that's not what this post is about. I'm finishing my day. My last post took us up to fourth period - Conceptual Physics.
Lunch - Self-explanatory. I guess I'm lucky; the cafeteria food isn't half bad and if I forget my wallet I can always ask the high faculty(Vice prinicipal, Dean of Students, President, Principal). It's actually kind of funny when I do. Kids come up to me and ask, "Did the vice principal just give you money?" Definitely one of my favorite subjects.
Fifth period - Spanish. I do ok learning foreign languages, but the teacher has this really dumb system of "muy biens" where you have to get a certain amount of participation points by the end of the quarter. Unless you raise your hand for every question and brownnose like there's no tommorrow, it's inconcievable to me how to reach the absurd number he demands. On top of that, there's quite a few of my enemies in this class...
Sixth period - Speech. I've got the same teacher for English as I do for speech. He is, like I said, vivid. I really do well in speech. It's probably my only subject where I can coast and still get an A. Of course, he occasionally assigns a big speech, but any competent student I.E. me can ace these. I'm just sad it's only one semester.
Seventh period - Theology. I like the teacher for this class, but I know alot of people who don't. The homework level is just a little bit below average, but I'm not complaining. I'm pretty much indifferent for Theology anyhow. It can be a pretty dry subject. But again, there are people in the class who don't like me.
After school - squat. I rarely ever do anything noteworthy after 3:10. Yeah. Oh well. That's my day.
